Our SDGs Initiatives

Reducing Single-Use Plastic Bottles
As part of our efforts to reduce plastic waste, we do not provide bottled mineral water in plastic bottles.
Instead, a blue bottle filled with drinking water is provided in the refrigerator.
Takayama’s tap water comes from water sources nurtured by the rich natural environment surrounding the Northern Japan Alps and Mt. Norikura, and is safe to drink directly from the tap.
We invite you to enjoy the fresh taste of Hida’s naturally blessed water during your stay.

Environmentally Conscious Amenities
We provide amenities designed to reduce the use of plastic, including bamboo toothbrushes and wooden hair combs.
Each item has been carefully selected not only for its environmental consideration, but also for its natural texture, comfort, and quality.

We Recommend a Longer Stay
A significant part of the CO₂ emissions associated with travel comes from transportation between destinations.
To help reduce the environmental impact of frequent travel, we encourage our guests to stay for two nights or more.
The Gassho Villa HidaTakayama also offers six Japanese cultural experiences, and a longer stay allows you to enjoy each of them at a relaxed pace.
Important Notes for Your Stay
Preserving Our Historic Gassho-Zukuri House for the Future
Our villa is a restored gassho-zukuri house with nearly 150 years of history.
To help preserve this special building for future generations, we kindly ask that you treat the house, furniture, and furnishings with care during your stay.
Low Ceilings, Beams, and Floor Level Changes
To preserve the original character of this traditional building, some areas have low ceilings and exposed beams.
Please take care when moving around the villa to avoid bumping your head.
There are also some steps, uneven floor levels, and slopes that differ from those found in modern buildings, so please watch your footing.
Use of the Attic
Access to the attic requires climbing a high ladder.
Due to the risk of falling, we kindly ask that young children, elderly guests, and anyone who may have difficulty climbing safely due to alcohol consumption refrain from using the attic.
About the Wasabi Challenge
Please adjust the amount of wasabi according to your own preference and physical condition.
Children, pregnant guests, anyone with stomach or respiratory concerns, and guests who have consumed alcohol should avoid excessive amounts or overly intense challenges.
Eating a large amount of wasabi at once or swallowing it whole may cause severe coughing or choking. Please enjoy the challenge safely by eating only a small amount at a time.
About the Knife Cutting Experience
This experience uses extremely sharp kitchen knives. For your safety, please always wear the cut-resistant glove provided, read the safety instructions carefully, and handle the knives with great care and at your own responsibility.
Use is not permitted for guests who have consumed alcohol or for children without adult supervision. Never use the knives for play, horseplay, or in any unsafe manner.
Use of Open Flames
As this is a historic wooden building, the use of open flames is not permitted.
No Smoking Indoors
Smoking is strictly prohibited throughout the property, including cigarettes and e-cigarettes.
Please use the designated smoking area in the garden.
Noise at Night
Our villa is located in a residential area.
At night, please keep the windows closed and be considerate of our neighbors by keeping voices, music, and other noise to a minimum.
